2006 CCS Western Canadian 8 Ball Championships Results

Team Spain OLA say OLA! , Better Odds beat the odds

Report by Ted Harms - Canadian Cue Sport Productions

How time flies. It seems like yesterday that the first Westerns were held in Medicine Hat in 2003. The 4th Annual Western Canadian 8 Ball Championships were held May 10-14th at the Acadia Recreation Centre in Calgary AB. With new and wider representation across Western Canada, entries were up overall in both Singles and Team. The competition was close with every Event producing new Champions. We congratulate them on their hard won Titles and wish them all the best of luck as they go on to compete in the 2007 CCS Canadian Nationals, courtesy of the added Paid Trip Prizes.

In the Men’s A – Advanced Singles, it was all Calgary with Danny Gilbert going the distance with wins over Anthony Renshaw, Garey Kirkland, Mark Vinogardov and Jeremy Smith before besting Jeremy Smith once again in the Finals. The B Open was won by Bryce Powell of Calgary and the C Standard was won by Chad Louey of Brooks.

In the Women’s A – Advanced Singles / B Open, it was all Vancouver Island as Andrea Wilson of Victoria followed up her recent win at the BC Championships by besting the reigning Canadian Champion MaryAnn McConnell of Port Alberni in the Finals.

In Scotch Doubles, it was Bryce Powell and Marilee Watson who were unstoppable winning out over the straight shooting couple of Bob and Kara Leonard to take the Falcon Cues.

In Men’s A – Advanced Team, it was Team Spain OLA (Mike Burton, Kevin Beavis, Jeremy Smith, Pete Sky, Dwayne Bjornstad and Mark Vinogradov) of Calgary who came through in the Finals match and spoiled the ‘threepeat’ of Greene Machine (Al Greenlee, Garey Kirkland, Russ Whittle, Danny Gilbert and Lloyd Anderson) from Calgary. The B Open was won by Juice Box Productions of Calgary and the C Standard was won by the Scorpions from Brooks.

In Women’s A – Advanced / B Open Team, the Better Odds team (Mary Rayner, Marilee Watson, Brenda Ouellette, Kara Leonard and Aurora Burdeyney) of Calgary who came out on top in a very close final over the Is It? Not Even team (Frances Jensen, Aroha Crowchild, Bernadine Crowchild, Julie Moosewaypayo, Shelley Starlight and Gail Harms) from Calgary.

The Canadian Cue Sport Association wishes to thank the Acadia Rec Centre for splendid job in hosting us once again, Hi Country Promotions of Colorado for the 40 Valley Tables and Mike Burton of Game Guys for the Set Up, Chris Kelly of DK Tek for the always smooth Tournament Direction, the ACS Certified Referee Crew headed by Jeff Phythian and all the Sponsors – Falcon Cues, Bob and Kara Leonard of TIPS Cue Services, Dave Melnyk of Q’s 4 Less and Jackie Bigelow of JB’s Pins n Things for helping to make the Tournament a success.
